Applications now open for Y12 Cambridge Maths STEP Prep Summer School 2014
The Maths STEP Prep Summer School is a new initiative to help Year 12 (or equivalent) students from non-selective UK state-maintained schools and colleges who intend to apply to the University of Cambridge to study Maths. Run by the University of Cambridge Admissions Office in collaboration with NRICH, the Summer School will provide early preparation for and familiarisation with the Sixth Term Exam Paper in Mathematics (STEP).
The free four-day summer school, taking place from 5-8 August 2014, is for students who are between Year 12 and Year 13. The Summer School programme allows students to be taught by NRICH team members and assisted by current Maths students. This intensive and demanding programme is designed to promote students' development of mathematical skills and understanding that are relevant to the nature of STEP questions, which test qualities like insight, originality, and the ability to use standard techniques in unusual ways and situations.

In addition to the STEP Prep Summer School, NRICH has also developed a free online STEP Preparation programme open to all students. The pilot online programme was launched in July 2013, aimed at students who had just completed Y12 and were intending to apply to university in 2013/14, with a particular focus on students whose schools and colleges are unable to offer support with STEP preparation. All current Y13 students applying to study mathematics at universities requiring STEP are warmly invited to explore the free online STEP Prep programme resources, which are designed for self-study and delivered in modules, with a new module being published roughly once every two weeks. All past modules are archived and easily accessible, so that those joining the programme later can catch up. Students can also sign up to the STEP Prep mailing list to receive email updates when new modules are published.
