Cambridge Maths Circle - Saturday 15 February 2014

The next Cambridge Maths Circle event takes place on Saturday 15 February 2014, 10am - 12.30, at the Centre for Mathematical Sciences, Wilberforce Road, CB3 0WA.

The Cambridge Maths Circle runs free events providing enjoyable and stimulating hands-on mathematical activities for children and young people of all ages from 5 to 18. Cambridge Maths Circle events are led by volunteer staff and students from the University of Cambridge Faculty of Mathematics.

Record number of Cambridge students volunteer for STIMULUS

206 University of Cambridge students have volunteered for the STIMULUS programme this term - a new termly record! STIMULUS is a community service programme which gives Cambridge University students the opportunity to work with pupils in local primary and secondary schools and sixth form colleges, helping with Maths, Science and Computing lessons. Volunteers sign up for a term at a time, working in their assigned school for one afternoon each week - in total the programme results in over 4,000 hours of student time being donated to local schools each year. STIMULUS benefits everyone involved.

Applications now open for Y12 Cambridge Maths STEP Prep Summer School 2014

Applications are now open for the University of Cambridge's 2014 Maths STEP Prep Summer School.

The Maths STEP Prep Summer School is a new initiative to help Year 12 (or equivalent) students from non-selective UK state-maintained schools and colleges who intend to apply to the University of Cambridge to study Maths. Run by the University of Cambridge Admissions Office in collaboration with NRICH, the Summer School will provide early preparation for and familiarisation with the Sixth Term Exam Paper in Mathematics (STEP).

Count down to Christmas with our mathematical Advent calendars!

Share in the festive spirit with our annual NRICH and Plus mathematical Advent calendars!

NRICH has published two online Advent calendars, one for primary students (ages 5 to 11) and one for secondary. This year the activities featured in the NRICH Primary Advent calendar are based on the theme Planet Earth, while the NRICH Secondary Advent Calendar presents a favourite video resource behind each door.

NRICH launches free STEP Preparation resources

Our NRICH website has just launched a new collection of free online resources to help potential university applicants prepare for sitting STEP Mathematics examinations.

STEP Mathematics is an additional examination, taken at the end of Y13, which forms part of conditional offers to mathematics applicants by Cambridge and some other universities.

New KS3 and 4 NRICH probability resources

A collection of free online resources taking an exciting new approach to the probability strand of the KS3 and 4 Mathematics curriculum has just been published on our NRICH website. Probability is the mathematical study of events which are subject to chance variation. It is an area which many students find difficult - not least because their intuitive understanding often appears to be contradicted by the maths.
